While it is a very important goal to universalize the primary education, it is equally important to pay attention to the quality of education. Ultimately the quality education will produce a population which can face the challenges of the changing structure of the economy and the opportunities it provides.
Appropriate teching methodologies, curriculum development, and training and resources for teachers are the key in improving the quality of education. Several non-profit orgnizations are working on these aspects. The need of the time, given the huge number of youth unemployment, particualrly in rural India, is to scale up and replicate the grass roots efforts to rech the large population with workable solutions. Lend-A-Hand India (www.lend-a-hand-india.org)has initiated some efforts in this direction.
