Government of India in April 2005 introduced “Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana” .................................

Government of India in April 2005 introduced “Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana” a scheme of Rural Electricity Infrastructure and Household Electrification with the aim of electrifying all the balance un-electrified villages (except remote villages to be covered by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy) by the year 2009. The Action Plan for RGGVY is:

2007-08: 40,000 villages
2008-09: 10,000 villages and remaining villages, if any.

This information was given by the Union Power Minister Shri Sushi Kumar Shinde in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha.  The implementing agencies have reported electrification of 43,100 un-electrified villages as on 24.08.2007 under RGGVY.  State-wise details on achievements in rural electrification are as follows:
