Rajya Sabha passes Women's Reservation Bill

Rajya Sabha on March 09, 2010 has passed the Women's Reservation Bill, ensuring 33% reservation to women in Parliament and state legislative bodies. Presently, Rajya Sabha has the strength of 233 members and out of those 186 members was in the favour of the bill while one has opposed the bill.
It is the 108th Constitution Amendment Bill to provide 33% reservation to women. The bill seeks to reserve for women 181 of the 543 seats in the Lok Sabha and 1,370 out of a total of 4,109 seats in the 28 State Assemblies.
After getting the nod from upper house it may introduced in Lok Sabha in the last week of budget session ending on May 07, 2010.
