Rajeev Gandhi Gramin LPG Yojna launched
Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Shri
Murli Deora has launched the implementation of National Scheme to
provide LPG to rural household namely Rajeev Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitrak
Yojna at Laxmangarh in Sikar District of Rajasthan. He was joined by
Shri Ashok Gehlot, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Dr. C.P. Joshi,
Minister of Rural Development, Government of India and other
dignitaries. To mark the occasion six dealers were selected through a
transparent process of draw of lots in full public view for rural
locations in the district of Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur and Churu of
Rajasthan. Similarly, draw of lots were also held for 44 locations in
the state of West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and
Jharkhand.
Last year, public sector oil marketing company under the Ministry of
Petroleum and Natural Gas had invited applications for LPG
distributorship at over 1200 rural locations in eight States of the
country, where LPG coverage is lower than the national average.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Deora said that the selection process
for these locations will be completed by April end. He emphasised that
the Government is committed to provide the convenient and hygienic
cooking fuel to the rural households on a priority. This will greatly
improved the cooking conditions in the kitchens of rural house-wives.
He also said that Rajeev Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitrak Yojna was formulated
for this purpose. Shri Deora further informed that over 800 more
locations will be soon advertised by the oil company under the scheme
as part of second phase of the implementation of the scheme.
