MCD online system for babies
To ensure better health facilities for
children, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) launched a first of
its kind maternal and child information system linking maternity homes
and child welfare centers on March 12, 2010.
The Maternal and Child Welfare Information System (MCWIS), which is
online software, was launched by MCD commissioner K S Mehra. The system
will allow maternity homes and centers to track antenatal the
systematic medical supervision of women during pregnancy registration,
create database for expecting mothers and share patients folders with
other hospitals etc. Besides, it will allow a physician to view lab
reports and follow the progress of a pregnant woman and know the
outcome of the pregnancy.
After birth, the child card will be made available online and a person
will be able to follow the development of the baby. The system will
interlink 33 maternity homes, 115 centers, 35 welfare centers, seven
Indian Population Project Units, 25 health centers and 105 health posts
in MCD. This system can also be used to investigate the number of
female foeticide cases in the city. The online registration of
pregnancies will be connected to that of online registration of birth,
said an MCD official.
