Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh announces Rs. 3,750-crore relief for Vidharbha
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Rs. 3,750-crore package of relief measures for Vidharbha, Maharashtra, focusing interest waiver and debt rescheduling. The package will help farmers in six districts of the region. In addition, a special rehabilitation package will be launched in 31 districts of four States where farmers have committed suicide. Apart from the six in Maharashtra, 16 districts have been identified in Andhra Pradesh, three in Kerala, six in Karnataka.

Andhra Pradesh seeks 16,000-cr. package for farmers: YSR
Dr. Reddy said a Rs. 16,000-crore package sought by the State Government, on the lines of the aid given to Vidarbha, for the 16 districts where farmers committed suicide was being processed by the Centre. Under the package, interest on all crop loans availed till June 2006 last would be waived, new crop loans allowed with a three-year moratorium and 1,000 milch animals distributed to farmers in each district to encourage dairying as income source.
